Nicklin Fellowship
A Lumen Christi Institute program supporting University of Chicago undergraduates as they pursue academic and intellectual interests, especially on existential questions of being
In partnership with
Lumen Christi Institute is a University of Chicago-based center dedicated to fostering the study and understanding of Catholic thought, culture, and intellectual tradition. The institute provides programs, seminars, and fellowships that encourage rigorous engagement with philosophy, theology, and the humanities, aiming to cultivate thoughtful reflection, dialogue, and scholarship among students and the broader academic community.

Launched in 2023, the Nicklin Fellowship was developed and promoted with funding and guidance from the First Analysis Institute in partnership with the Lumen Christi Institute at the University of Chicago.

The Nicklin Fellows are a select group of undergraduate students who receive a competitive, application-based fellowship offering exclusive access to research and development grant funds. These grants support projects that align with the fellows' intellectual interests, such as organizing reading groups, hosting speakers, planning movie nights, developing Fundamental Questions seminars, or writing papers for journals.
The fellowship aims to foster academic and intellectual exploration, particularly around existential questions of being, while cultivating intellectual friendships grounded in a shared love of truth, beauty, and goodness.
Nicklin Fellows are required to attend three sessions of a Fundamental Questions seminar in the fall of 2023, participate in one other Lumen Christi event per academic year, and be undergraduate students at the University of Chicago. All student projects should adhere to the guiding principles of the Lumen Christi Institute.
